History

Eighteen years ago, Susie and Bill Osborn decided to allow their son Bobby to choose any breed of dog he wanted for a family pet.  Bobby chose an Alaskan Malamute named "Timber", which soon grew into a massive and stubborn 135 pound giant that required obedience training.  Bill was much too busy in the mail order business and Bobby was much too young (and small), so Susie was to be the official family trainer.  It was then that Susie's love for dogs began to blossom.  A family friend had an Akita that needed a new home, so Bill and Susie gladly took him in.   Soon she took an interest in Shelties, which are known for their intelligence, and she accumulated up to eight Shelties at one time, along with the Malamute and the Akita ... and just for kicks, two Pomeranians as well!

Susie began to really enjoy the training and began to train competitively in local dog shows.    Susie's small army of twelve were all trained and loved.  The training that Susie did on her own dogs turned her into somewhat of an expert, and in 1985 she began her career as a dog training instructor at Smokette Kennels in Aloha, Oregon.  Susie trained dog owners in basic obedience, off lead training, competition training, and conformation training.

Many of Susie's students would ask her to take care of their dogs when they went on vacation, and now you are beginning to get the idea of how Susie's Country Inn was born.  Susie really began to notice the importance of quality pet are and how much it meant to the dog owners who wanted their pets safely watched over so they did not have to worry while they were away.  She was told on many occasions by her students that she should consider opening her own facility, and so she did.

In the winter of 1993, dogs all over the Northwest rejoiced ... Susie's Country Inn was open for service.  Two months after Susie's opened for business, Bobby's tour with the Army was over and he came home with his wife and two children to take over as manager of the Inn.  It did not take long for word to spread about the quality of pet care provided by Susie's Country Inn.  Now, today and everyday is spent maintaining and striving for the best pet care provided everywhere.
